About Empowered Path Counselling

Welcome! I'm so happy to hear that you want to connect and begin or continue your healing journey.

Some may think they must go through life alone with the imprints of the past, which may leave them feeling overwhelmed, hyper-reactive, isolated, disconnected, and maybe with an interrupted sense of self. Perhaps you may feel constricted or weighted down by the feeling of wanting to belong, to be accepted. Or maybe you feel as if the world around you is telling you how to be, leaving you pretending to be someone you're not. In our work together, we can lead ourselves to further self-discovery, freedom, and empowerment while integrating mind-body practices.

With years of experience and a genuine and compassionate approach, we strive to empower clients to overcome obstacles and thrive by providing a safe and supportive environment. Personalized therapy sessions are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual, couple, or family, ensuring a holistic approach to mental and emotional wellness. From this holistic, unbiased, non-judgemental approach, I aim to acknowledge and eliminate power imbalances and discrepancies inside and outside of session, and help folks uncover internalized messages that have wreaked havoc on their sense of self.

Even though it can be very helpful to some, I tend to shy away from diagnosis and using diagnostic labels within our work together as it places folks in a category of being "abnormal", "different", or classifies certain ways of being outside of the dominant cultures, often leaving the person feeling as if there is something "wrong" with them. I may use terminology like "responses", instead of "disorder"; "adaptations", instead of "symptoms"; "what has happened", instead of "what is wrong". Even if diagnosis seems helpful in certain contexts, such as education, it is potentially problematic due to the assumptions woven into the diagnosis itself.

I feel incredibly honoured to work with the broad spectrum of people looking to heal, grow, and thrive and to hear the unique stories that each one brings into counselling. I am excited and eager to begin this journey together.

I engage in ongoing supervision with Abby Chow, RCC-ACS & Ted Leavitt M.Sc., RCC.

A little about me:

Of course, what kind of relationship would this be if it was only one-sided?

My name is Brooke!

I hold a master’s degree in counselling psychology, which I completed at Adler University, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor registered with BCACC. I am cis-gender, currently non-disabled, a straight-sized body type, middle class settler who lives with anxiety and ADHD. As a person and practitioner, I acknowledge that I hold many privileges. However, understanding my privileges, as well as understanding my own experiences with oppression and marginalization, is a core reason I am a trauma-informed Feminist practitioner, advocate, and activist.

In addition to this formal education, I have work experience supporting my fellow humans struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety, panic, psychosis, suicide ideation, self-harming behaviours, disordered eating, trauma, and violence. I have been told that I help people feel safe and accepted by providing a space to be vulnerable while highlighting the client’s right to self-determination.
